On September 18, 2012, the PG&E Zero Net Energy Pilot Program will bring together multiple viewpoints to explore the concept of zero net energy within the larger framework of California’s energy efficiency and environmental goals and policies that drive them. We will hear from stakeholders in the policy, planning, utility and design communities, as well as those from industry and development.

PG&E ZNE for Non-Residential Buildings Class Series

In coordination with PG&E Pacific Energy Center and ZNE Pilot Program staff, Resource Refocus LLC developed the “Zero Net Energy for Non-Residential Buildings Class Series.” The series kicks off tonight with Mara Baum and runs through October 29, 2012.

Noelle Cole Presents Our Paper at ACEEE Summer Study

Resource Refocus LLC collaborated with AIA San Francisco and PG&E technical staff to develop the Architecture at Zero 2012 design competition on behalf of the PG&E Zero Net Energy Pilot Program.

Now in its second year, Architecture at Zero 2012 is an international open ideas competition with a focus on the specific challenges of creating zero net energy (ZNE) buildings. This year’s challenge is a site at the University of California, Merced.

Resource Refocus Will Be Presenting at the 2012 ACEEE Summer Study

Noelle Cole will be presenting our paper on “Architecture at Zero: Results & Lessons from a Zero Net Energy Design Competition” as part of Panel 11, Sustainable and Net Zero Energy Communities, at the 2012 ACEEE Summer Study.

Noelle is the lead author of the paper, with co-authors Anna LaRue (Resource Refocus LLC), Peter Turnbull (PG&E), Bill Burke (PG&E), Sam Jensen Augustine (PG&E), Margie O’Driscoll (AIA SF), Stacy Williams (AIA SF), and Rebecca Kennedy (AIA SF).

ZNE Buildings, DG, and the Electricity System

Resource Refocus LLC worked with the PG&E Zero Net Energy Pilot Program and Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) to coordinate a forum titled “Zero Net Energy Buildings, Distributed Generation and the Electricity System: New Types of Relationships.” The event was held at the Brower Center in Berkeley, California, on March 6, 2012.

At the event, Rocky Mountain Institute presented key findings from a study conducted for PG&E. The event also included a moderated panel of key stakeholders, including Christina Page (Director of Climate and Energy Strategy, Yahoo!, Inc.), Kenneth Munson (President and CEO, Sunverge Energy, Inc.), Stephen Frantz (Program Planner, Sacramento Municipal Utility District), Victor Olgyay (Principal, Rocky Mountain Institute), Nolan Zail (Senior Vice President of Development, Carmel Partners), and David Rubin (Director of Service Analysis, PG&E).

PG&E ZNE + RMI Presentation – March 6, 2012

On March 6, 2012, Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and the PG&E ZNE Pilot Program are hosting a presentation and panel discussion about zero net energy (ZNE) buildings, distributed generation, and the electricity grid called “ZNE Buildings, Distributed Generation, and the Electricity System: New Types of Relationships.”

The event will be held from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the David Brower Center in Berkeley, CA. The event is free, but registration is required.

ETAP Technology Seminar Presentation at ABAG

New Zero Net Energy Team Member!

Resource Refocus LLC is excited to announce that we have added Loralyn Perry to our team supporting the PG&E ZNE Pilot Program.

Loralyn Perry is Principal of EnergyMatters, an energy and sustainability consulting business serving commercial and residential clients. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and a Certified Green Building Professional. Her experience includes over twenty years experience in energy efficiency technologies, utility programs, sustainable building and landscape architecture. She has developed and managed programs for large utilities and non-profit firms and has consulted with hundreds of California utility customers and building professionals for the work she has done in association with PG&E’s Savings by Design new construction program.

Loralyn earned a BLA from the University of Washington and a Project Management Certification from UC Berkeley. For her project management work, she was awarded several Integration Awards from California’s largest utility celebrating her ability to work collaboratively with team members for the benefit of utility customers. She has a broad knowledge of regulatory and building rating programs (LEED-NC, CHPS, CALGreen, ASHRAE 90.1, Title 24) and energy efficiency simulation models as well as IPMPV protocol.
